Publications

Picture
Hurricane Hope is the publication by Raw Fiction's 2015 writing writing collective, featuring Joseph Capunay, Maria Filipchenko, Jeanette Foster, Mariam Kamate, Amari Tims and Mahlaney Wilson. For information on how to purchase this youth designed zine click on the photo.

During the Spring of 2013, five young writers from four boroughs in New York City convened weekly to discuss

literature and establish the foundation of Raw Fiction, a youth-driven literary arts project. They discussed

literature, wrote stories and went on field trips to the theater, to museums, and to the cinema. Each writer trained

through the week - in between group meetings - with a mentor in the professional fields of editing, graphic design

web programming, project management and publicity. The result of these months of intense collaboration resulted

in the design of this website you are visiting, the Raw Fiction logo and Raw Fiction's first publication, The 3,452nd

Edition, featuring the work of founding participants Karen Huang, Amber Fraser, Cha-Lisa Johnson, Ruth Tirado,

and Nisha Wadhwani along with stories by New York residents including Akwaeke Zara Emezi, Mark Fusco, and

Lisa Sita. Click here to read The 3,452nd Edition.
